Preview: Newly ordained minister and street art OG, D*Face, set to open "Happy Never Ending"

Corey Helford Gallery in downtown Los Angeles to host the British artist D*Face's major solo show, Happy Never Ending, one in which the artist will be officiating an actual wedding inside the gallery on opening night, September 23rd. The show runs through October 21, 2017.  D*Face has long been synonymous with street art's rise from cult underground art form to one of the most beloved and famed genres in the world. His paintings have been a collision of pop art references with comic book humor, and his career has been a balance of major murals and grand exhibitions. Happy Never Ending will be D*Face’s only U.S. solo show this year, and according to the gallery, "will be a full immersive experience as he is set out to resurrect romance in the modern era." But here is the kicker: D*Face was recently ordained and in connection with the theme of his show (bringing back a little romance into the modern era), he will perform a real marriage ceremony during opening night (9/23) in front of a chapel installation inside the gallery. ...

Book Club: Donald Judd Writings

In his classic essay Specific Objects, Donald Judd described an art that is “neither painting nor sculpture,” and which “doesn’t constitute a movement ... school, or style.” Judd published the text in 1965, at a time when his own body of work had only just begun to reject the conventions of gallery appropriateness ... While this treatise has always been used as something of a skeleton key for interpreting his later forays into sculpture ... and purchased the now-iconic 101 Spring Street building in Manhattan), he instead began to expand the oppositional nature of his work beyond the world of art ... That he would only then begin to create works which were larger and more site specific (and difficult, if not impossible, to display in traditional arts institutions) was likely a direct result ...
