Shoton Festival to be held in Tibet

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region is planning a host of cultural events for an upcoming traditional festival in the regional capital, Lhasa. The Shoton Festival, also known as the Yogurt Banquet Festival, is a week-long extravaganza that has been held since the 11th century. It was originally a religious occasion when locals would offer yogurt to monks who had finished meditation retreats. This year's festival will be held from August 11 to 17, local authorities said Wednesday. The event will feature exhibitions, Tibetan opera performances, equestrian shows and hiking. In the first half of 2018, Tibet received about 11 million domestic and foreign tourists, generating tourism revenue of about 12.5 billion yuan (1.8 billion U.S. dollars). ...

Chinese art and craft exhibition opens in Mongolia

An exhibition of Chinese art and craft opened in Ulan Bator on Wednesday to promote China-Mongolia relations in the field of culture and showcase China's Lishui culture in Mongolia. Lishui, a city in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, is famed for its "three treasures" -- porcelain, swords and stone sculptures. The exhibits include more than 30 works by Lishui craftsmen. The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts “The Face of Dynasty: Royal Crests from Western Cameroon”

Four monumental 'tsesah' crests, created by Bamileke master sculptors of Western Cameroon, are on view at The Met exhibition “The Face of Dynasty ... The exhibition is the first public presentation of The Met’s recent acquisition of a tsesah crest,” writes The Met. The masterpiece, which has been acquired by The Met, is deemed to have been carved 200 years ago and may have been a prototype for the extant tsesah corpus ...
